Trial delay for man accused of murdering two people in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) There's a delay in the murder trial of a man accused of killing two people in Sioux City.

Juan Nino-Estrada is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

Police say, in November, Nino-Estrada shot and killed 35-year-old Yolanda Valdez and 33-year old Michael Delgado inside a home at 507 West 27th Street.

A third victim, 33-year-old Luis Sanchez, who police say was shot and stabbed, survived.

Authorities say an altercation between Nino-Estrada and Sanchez escalated into gunfire that night.

A trial was set for May 13th, but has now been moved to May 27th due to a conflict with one of the witnesses for the prosecution.

Later this month, a judge will hear arguments on a defense motion to suppress some evidence obtained by police.

Nino-Estrada's defense attorney say the evidence was obtained in violation of his 5th Amendment rights.
