SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

About 100 agencies in 11 counties around our area will benefit from Saturday's event at the Food Bank of Siouxland.

The Food Bank teamed up with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for the annual "Scouting for Food" food drive.

Before getting in to the warehouse to pack the food, the boys did the leg work by picking up food from people's doorsteps and at local grocery stores.

Those with the Food Bank said it's a great event and the boys learn an even bigger lesson from all their hard work.

"Teaching young people about both hunger in their community, which is a problem, and about caring for their community, and volunteering, and being involved, and giving back, that's a great message to teach a young person," Executive Director of the Food Bank of Siouxland Linda Scheid said.

This year's goal was to collect 10,000 pounds of food. Organizers said they exceeded that amount.
