Johnny Stanton is one of the Nebraska quarterbacks hoping to secure the backup spot behind Tommy Armstrong.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KTIV) -
Nebraska had a strong day in their spring game in front of 60,000-plus in Lincoln.
Big Red's defense played well with six sacks and three interceptions, but the focus was on the offensive side of the ball.
The first team only took a few snaps on Saturday, but there was still plenty of offense.
Running back Imani Cross ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns, and the quarterback battle for the number two spot between Ryker Fyfe and Johnny Stanton heated up.
The two combined for over 200 yards and three scores, with Stanton throwing two touchdowns.
Both have made progress this spring.
"Like I tell all the guys at all the positions, if they just concentrate at making themselves better and not worrying about what other guys are doing, if they just continue to develop themselves, we have a stable of quarterbacks that are very capable," said head coach Bo Pelini.
Nebraska opens its 2014 campaign August 30th against Florida Atlantic.
