Trailer of turkeys careens into parked cars before tipping over

An accident early Saturday morning damaged nearly a dozen parked cars after a trailer of turkeys overturned.

Authorities say a semi truck trailer carrying live turkeys was speeding down Gordon drive, when the cargo shifted, causing the truck to topple onto its right side.

When the trailer fell, it came down on ten cars in the parking lot of Certified Auto at the intersection of Gordon and Alice.

The driver, Marko Dimitrijevic, and the passenger were taken to Mercy Medical Center with what officials call non-incapacitating injuries.

The driver will be ticketed with failure to maintain control and speeding, according to Sioux City police.

The turkeys were retrieved at the scene by animal control.
