Weather kills two in Northeast Nebraska crash

Sunday's snowstorm is being blamed in a crash that claimed the lives of two people near Hoskins, Nebraska. Virlyn Lukens, 85, and Marvel Lukens, 77, of Emerson were killed when the pickup truck they were in went out of control and was hit broadside by another vehicle on Highway 35. The driver of the other vehicle, Robbi Johnson, 45, of Norfolk, was injured, but his condition was not available.

Trailer of turkeys careens into parked cars before tipping over

An accident early Saturday morning in Sioux City smashes 10 vehicles in a used car lot and unleashes a trailer full of turkeys. Police said a semi trailer carrying live turkeys was speeding down Gordon drive when the cargo shifted, causing the truck to topple onto its right side. The trailer tipped over onto ten cars in the lot of Certified Auto at the intersection of Gordon and Alice. The truck driver went to the hospital. He was ticketed for speeding and failure to maintain control.

One Siouxland community's using a driving simulator to teach teens the dangers of texting behind the wheel

Students from Norfolk Senior High School help present a lesson in the dangers of texting while driving. They teamed up with the Nebraska State Patrol for a "Teen Distracted Driving Summit." Young drivers got behind the wheel in driving simulators and heard from speakers, including Norfolk's Mayor and Nebraska's first lady. Organizers said having peers put on the event helped to drive the message home to their fellow teenagers.

Slain policeman's fellow officers escort daughter to father-daughter dance

A special night for an 8-year-old girl. Kalie Buenting of Rockwell City, Iowa had a dozen dates for the Daddy-Daughter Dance on Saturday. Kalie's father, Jamie Buenting, was a Rockwell City police officer who was shot and killed while serving a warrant last September. Jamie's fellow tactical unit officers all took Kalie to the Dance. These are the same men who were with Buenting the night that he died. Kalie said she plans to take the guys to the dance every year, even when she's 18.
