Former South Sioux standout Curl passes away

HOUSTON, TX - South Sioux City graduate and the all-time winningest women's basketball coach at the University of Houston, Joe Curl, died Monday morning. Curl had been on a heart transplant list for more than a year.

 He and his wife Lesa graduated from South Sioux City high school in 1974 and have two children.

 In 12 seasons at Houston, he won 193 games. In 2004, the Cougars won a school-record 28 games, won the Conference USA title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Joe Curl was 59 years old.
