Ricketts talks with seniors in Pierce, NE

Early voting in the Nebraska primary election began Monday morning. With less than 30 days until voters hit the ballot box, candidates are continuing to take their message to Siouxland voters.

Pete Ricketts, Republican candidate for Nebraska Governor, held a town hall Monday morning at the Pierce Senior Center in Pierce, Nebraska.

Ricketts said that property tax rates were on the minds of many in Pierce. "And how it's impacting the farmers around here," Ricketts said. "Especially folks were telling me that valuations last year go up 30%. That's a big impact on a producer, and that's why part of my plan for growing agriculture here in Nebraska addresses how we can address property taxes."

Ricketts' plan calls for reducing ag land property tax valuations from 75% to 65%, capping how fast the valuations can raise, and adding money to the state's property tax credit relief fund.
