UPDATE: Water service restored in Dakota City, NE following two line breaks

DAKOTA CITY, Neb. (KTIV) - More than 1,900 people were without water for ten hours on Monday. It was the second such outage in three days.

People in Dakota City, Nebraska, couldn't shower or even have a glass of water this morning, just like last Saturday afternoon.

The transmission line that broke today was the same one that broke on Saturday, but Monday it broke in a completely different spot.

Fortunately, the repairs from Saturday held, but city officials say these breaks are the reason behind the huge water reconstruction project Dakota City is working on right now.

The pipe that burst is about 35 years old, an example of the aged infrastructure that lead Dakota City to begin to go over the city's inner workings. Brent Clark, Dakota City's administrator, said this definitely wasn't a part of the renovation plan. "We are currently under a $2.1-million water rehab phase. Unfortunately, this was not a component in that rehab phase, but it is now. So we're making sure that we do fix this to the best of our abilities and making sure that this does not happen again," Brent Clark, City Administrator said.

Water was restored to Dakota City and Dakota County Rural Water just before 3:00pm Monday afternoon.

Clark said the water pressure was affected while crews were working to fix the problem, putting Dakota City under a boil advisory for the forseeable future.
