Students serve their communities during "Global Day of Service"

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - It's spring break for some students, but that didn't stop them from getting involved to help out the community.

Wednesday was "Kids Global Day of Service", and the 20th Anniversary of the AmeriCorps Program.

Members of the Iowa State University Extension-Midtown Center celebrated this day with the children who are attending the Spring Break Camp. They gathered at the community garden to clean up and prepare the garden for planting. "I think it's good.  The kids are really enjoying it and they get to give back. We are teaching them about giving back to the community and that things are not just about us necessarily but other people as well," said Lashawna Moyle, AmeriCorps. "Just knowing that I've cleaned up this whole place it just make me feel really good and so proud of myself," said Haley Connot.

ISU Extension here in Woodbury County tries to provide positive programs for young people in the community.
