SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - Easter isn't until Sunday, but families in Sioux City came together to celebrate one of the holiday's greatest traditions a day early.

Families began Saturday at Sunrise Retirement Community with the annual Easter egg hunt on.

The day also included face painting, a bake sale and a chance to pet baby chickens.

The children had fun with it all.

"I got an egg that had circles like polka dots," said Harrison Kimbell. "It looked like a dinosaur egg, but it wasn't."

"I got to hold a little chick," said Shaylee Jurrens. "I like chickens and I don't really get to see them often at home."

"The value of it is terrific because it brings young and old together," said Kim Walish. "I think the older are just as thrilled as the younger."

The Sunrise grounds were cleared of the five thousand eggs in about 15 minutes.
