SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
For the first time since 2005 Sioux City has a won a playoffs series in the Clark Cup Playoffs.
The Musketeers rallied past the Omaha Lancers, earning a 4-2 victory in game four to advance to Western Conference Finals against Waterloo.
Adam Johnson and Brandon Hawkins each had goals, but it was Jake Montgomery scoring the game winner along with an empty netter in the final three minutes to lift the Muskies into the Western Conference Finals.
Goaltender Kyle Hayton was spectacular in net, stopping 35 of the 37 shots he faced, including a flurry right on the door step by Omaha.
Now the focus is taking down the Anderson Cup winners from Waterloo and moving one step closer to the Clark Cup Championship.
"As you hear in the background, that's the noise of winning," Head Coach Jay Varady said. "That's exciting right now. Nobody in that locker room has won a playoff series in the USHL and to do that together it's an exciting time right now in Sioux City."
"Now, we've knocked off the second best team in the division, now we're going after the best," he continued. "It's going to be a little bit of a different matchup. They have a bit of a bigger ice sheet out there in Waterloo. They like to skate and play a different style than Omaha. It starts now."
"We've had some games on them, and they've had some on us," goaltender Kyle Hayton said. "I think it's going to be a good, tight series."
