Norfolk, NE man sentenced to 50 years for kidnapping his estranged wife

MADISON, Neb. (KTIV/US92)  A Norfolk, Nebraska man could spend the rest of his life in prison for trying to kidnap his estranged wife.

50-year old Kevin Heldt was sentenced to 50 years in prison today by Madison County District Court judge Mark Johnson.

The sentence was recommended by prosecutors as part of a plea agreement under which Heldt pleaded guilty to attempted kidnapping.

Prosecutors say Heldt took his estranged wife Rhonda from her home in Tilden last May.

He attacked her and drove her to an abandoned farmstead near Meadow Grove where she was held captive beneath an overturned cow tank overnight before eventually escaping.
