Buena Vista senior Jeremy Lambert is the Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week.
Buena Vista senior designated hitter Jeremy Lambert turned in a stellar offensive effort for the Beavers during their weekend series sweep at home against the University of Dubuque and was rewarded by the Iowa Conference by being named the league's Male Athlete of the Week.
The recognition is the first in the career of Lambert and adds to the list of Beavers to earn weekly IIAC honors this season.
Lambert finished the series going 8-for-12 at the plate with a pair of doubles, nine RBI and four runs scored. He was also hit by a pitch three times and struck out only twice. His four RBI in game one of Saturday's twinbill were a season-high while the three hits in that contest matched a season-best. For the week, his average and RBI were both team highs, while his eight hits ranked second.
Lambert helped BVU match a season-high with nine straight wins and also moved into sole possession of first place in the conference standings.
The Beavers (27-5, 16-4 IIAC) will return to action this Friday and Saturday (April 25-26) for a pivotal four-game weekend series at Wartburg College (21-11, 15-5 IIAC).
Northwestern College senior shortstop Cody Groskreutz is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Baseball Player-of-the-Week after recording a hit in each of the Red Raiders’ six games on the week.
He hit .526 with eight runs scored, 11 RBIs, two stolen bases, three doubles and a triple in five wins for Northwestern.
Cody, a native of Apple Valley, Minnesota, has a .373 average on the year and is second in the GPAC with 44 runs scored and fourth in RBIs with 41. Northwestern (33-9, 12-4 GPAC) is third in the GPAC standings and ranked 20th in the latest NAIA poll.
