Le Mars' ties to Blue Bunny could earn the school district a hefty grant in the near future.

The Le Mars Community school foundation was chosen as a finalist for the "Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope" program.

The program is sponsored by the Jimmie Johnson foundation and helps education-based charities.

Of the ten finalists, five will be chosen to receive a $25,000 cash grant, and each finalist will have their logo featured on Johnson's helmet during the July 27th NASCAR Sprint Cup race.

As for the money, officials haven't decided what they would do with it.

"It would mean a lot to the foundation," said superintendent Todd Wendt. "Obviously, the $25,000 would be a pretty significant one-time contribution to the foundation. The foundation board would have to decide what they want to do with that money, but that would be a really significant donation to our foundation."

The Le Mars Community School Foundation currently sits in fourth place in the voting, which ends Thursday night.
