New training for firefighters in northeast Nebraska

NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV/US92) - Fire crews in Norfolk, Nebraska spent Tuesday night practicing a number of firefighting techniques.

Crews used a donated house on 555th Avenue south of Norfolk for training.

They practiced using compressed air foam equipment that is not only new to the Norfolk Fire Division, but is new to northeast Nebraska.

Chief Scott Cordes says, "With the introduction of compressed air, it creates all kinds of flexibility with the foam, different applications, it has an incredible opportunity to extend our water supply. It makes the hoses much lighter and more maneuverable and it has a great extinguishing capability with it that puts the fire out faster."

The Avenue was closed to through traffic as crews were performing the training.

Chief Cordes says that fire crews will remain on scene mopping up any hot spots throughout the evening hours.
