Martha visits children at Sioux City's Public Library

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - There was a dog spreading knowledge to young children at the Sioux City's Public Library.

Her name is Martha and she is the canine star of "Martha Speaks"

"Martha Speaks" is based upon children books which are written by Susan Meddaugh.

These books are designed to broaden the vocabulary of young readers in efforts to give them a jump start for school.
"Reading is a valuable occupation for them and a good shared experience with their children, Jeanette Bobeen, Youth Services Manager.

"I think I know every word in this room," said Joshua Gertz, Participant.

This special story time was made possible by the partnership between the Iowa's Public Television's "Ready for School Initiative" and the Sioux City Public Library.

This is the first year for this statewide program.
