Local students celebrate Arbor Day

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE (KTIV) - One Siouxland School celebrated Arbor Day a little early by planting trees in their community.

Fourth grade students from Harney Elementary School in South Sioux City, Nebraska planted trees at their local soccer fields.

Six trees were donated Thursday by the Nebraska Public Power District and a few more will be added at a later date.

In honor of Arbor Day, students learned about tree planting safety and the proper way to plant a tree.

This was also an effort to replace trees that were destroyed by the 2011 flood of the Missouri River.
