IRGC reviewing appeal by owner of Argosy Casino

DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) - The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission is reviewing an appeal by the owner of Sioux City's Argosy Casino to reconsider a April 17 decision to close the Argosy Casino.

IRGC administrator Brian Ohorilko says there are options for the commission moving forward. One would be to deny the appeal, another would be to accept the appeal and proceed to another hearing like the one held at the end of March.

Another option would be to not make any decision on the appeal.

"We are reviewing the request and trying to make a determination on whether or not we will grant that request. We have 20 days to do so. If it is not done within those 20 days then the motion would be deemed denied, said Ohorilko.

Ohorilko says those are 20 calendar days from when the appeal was filed, which was Tuesday, April 22.

He says the IRGC can call a special session in those 20 days to discuss the appeal if they feel it's needed.

He is not sure if the Argosy would have any administrative or legal action in District Court regarding the decision if they were to deny the appeal
