SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - Work is well underway on the reconstruction of Gordon Drive in Sioux City.

At a town hall meeting, at the Sioux City Public Museum, Thursday night, police talked about the impact the project can have public safety. Driver safety can become a concern in construction zones when people are being rerouted and detoured.

Officials say they've seen accidents in work zones before, and they're easy to prevent if you follow the posted speed limit. "When you get to changing speeds, that's where accidents get caused," said Dean Herbst with the Iowa Department of Transportation. "Limit the amount of looking at what's happening and focus on getting through the area. Anytime there are those kind of delays, the distraction is the same thing as looking at your phone or something."

The project is set to be completed at the end of November.
