Celebrating 25 years of music in Norfolk

A Siouxland singing group is marking a major milestone. The Norfolk Men's Chorus is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The chorus of about 50 members from all around northeast Nebraska has been holding rehearsals for the spring dinner shows on Friday and Saturday.

The group started with 13 members back in 1989 and eventually swelled to almost 65 members at its highest point. Group members said they've been planning to make their 25th anniversary a big event. They'll have memorabilia for sale as well as their first CD, made up of recordings of previous years' concerts.

Organizers said they're also planning on having some familiar faces on hand to commemorate the occasion.

"We have a lot of our previous members who've not been able to sing with us for years. We've sent invitations for them to try and get as many back as we could. We've also extended a special hand to our previous directors before me," said Dale Stephenson, the chorus director.

Organizers said they'll have each of the three directors the chorus has had over the past quarter-century conduct a song during the weekend's concerts.

Performances will be at 6 p.m. at the Lifelong Learning Center in Norfolk.
