Events scheduled to remember the crash of United Flight 232 in Sioux City
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (SUBMITTED) We have learned that the best outcomes when faced with an emergency or disaster come from being prepared. We want to invite individuals and groups in our various communities to participate in service-oriented disaster response preparedness and other service-oriented activities between now and July 1, 2014. We encourage anyone participating to upload pictures and stories of your project and participants onto the Facebook Page: Flight 232 25th Year Reunion.
The Service Group for the 232 25th Remembrance committee will be contacting EMS, hospitals, mayors, churches and other groups in the surrounding areas to invite them to participate and engage with groups wanting to perform service activities and/or disaster preparedness. A blood drive will be held in conjunction with the open house activities at The Security Institute, Saturday, July 19th on the WITCC campus.
Examples of service or disaster preparedness activities include:
Reach out to your local EMS/Fire Squad/hospital to offer to volunteer or learn how to respond within your community when emergency happens
Speak to your local American Red Cross office for disaster/emergency preparedness education.
Reach out to your local church to volunteer to help with service project
Prepare first aid kits for home/car/community
Schedule a blood drive or donate blood
Collect/contribute to your local food pantry and/or work with local organizations to sponsor a food drive
Contact leaders within your community to take on a service project
