Sioux City's citywide cleanup begins in Greenville neighborhood

On a beautiful day like Saturday, it was a good time to do some spring cleaning.

Sioux City kicked off its neighborhood cleanup events in Greenville.

Cars lined Logan Street to get rid of their mattresses, old furniture, tires, branches and brush.

Two appliances per resident are accepted, as well as four tires per person, household furnishings, and newspapers/magazines.

Items not accepted include electronics like televisions, microwave ovens, and computers. Paint and chemicals of any kind, as well as construction materials, car batteries, and gasoline are also not allowed.

Organizers said it's convenient to have dumpsters in their neighborhood for the day.

"If they have just junk in their house, stuff that they replaced, they can bring it here, and instead of hauling it all the way to the dump, the city provides us with dumpsters for citizens to come here and dump for free," Greenville Pac Chairman Jacki Sweisberger said.

There will be other neighborhood cleanups over the next couple of weeks.
