Siouxland students vote for new school name

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Students at two Sioux City elementary schools are casting their ballots to decide the name of a brand new school.

The new elementary school is set to open in August of 2015. Students from Washington and Whittier both got to vote on Monday. There are four school names on the ballot: Discovery, Journey, Lewis and Morningside.

"We've used it as an opportunity for our students to teach them about the voting process and the election process," said Dawn Stansbury, principal at Washington Elementary School. "It is going to be their school and that is why it's so important to us for them to be involved."

The winning name will be announced on Wednesday. From there, it will go to the Sioux City School Board for final approval.
