Storms rip through several states, leaving death and destruction in their wake

Posted:

(NBC News) At least 16 people were killed when a tornado outbreak ripped across three states on Sunday.

Among the hardest hit was the town of Mayflower, Arkansas where the search for more victims continues.

A powerful storm system triggered dozens of tornados across the plains.

Hundreds of homes were destroyed.

For survivors Ann and Dennis King, Sunday's tornado is their third in the past seven years.

Their Vilonia, Arkansas home, their truck and all their belongings were wiped away, but not their faith.

"If we hadn't been at church we would have been here," Dennis King points out.

Most everything they owned is gone, still they understand they are among the lucky ones here.

"I know some people today are having to plan funerals and we're not having to do that and we're so thankful," Ann says.
