SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

UPDATE:

An investigation continues after a 2-month-old baby was brought to a Sioux City hospital by his father and pronounced dead upon arrival.

Sioux City Police said 26-year-old Michael Williams was driven to UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Emergency Room with his dead baby by an acquaintance Tuesday afternoon.

"Two-month-old, Leonard Williams, was brought to the hospital by his father Michael Williams, who has since been charged with neglect of a dependent person, which is a class C felony," Sioux City Police Department Lieutenant Mark Kirkpatrick said.

At the hospital, Williams was advised of his rights, and Williams told authorities he was the caretaker of the child and would leave the baby unsupervised for long periods at a time on a daily basis.

"We found the home to be quite dirty, in disarray," Lt. Kirkpatrick said.

Police searched his apartment at 2800 West Fourth Street and found dirty diapers and garbage all over. They also said there were two other children under the age of three in the home the day Leonard was brought to the hospital.

"They were still at the residence and have since been removed from the Department of Human Services," Lt. Kirkpatrick said.

Williams admitted that he was addicted to adderall, marijuana, and meth for most of his life. At the time of his arrest, however, authorities couldn't say whether he was using drugs.

Williams also had other warrants out for his arrest.

"There were three warrants out for his arrest. There were two contempt of courts and one probation violation," Lt. Kirkpatrick said.

Police said the mother was at work when Leonard was brought to the hospital.

Lt. Kirkpatrick said the autopsy has been completed, but it usually takes 6 to 8 weeks to get back those results.
