New transit center unveiled by Ponca Tribe

NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV/US92) - Some Siouxland business leaders got a glimpse of the new Ponca Express Transit Center Wednesday in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Officials with the Norfolk Area Chamber held a ribbon-cutting event at the new facility, located on what used to be the campus of the old Nebraska Christian College.

The Ponca Tribe purchased the campus a few years ago, and began planning the 15,000 square foot facility that houses the Ponca Express public transit vehicles.

Tribal officials say they're hoping to get the word out that the Ponca Express is intended for public use.

The campus also features administrative buildings and serves as one of five headquarters for the Tribe.

Tribal officials say they're planning further expansion at the site.

They are in the beginning stages of discussing a possible permanent public transit route through Norfolk.
