Sioux City leaders lobby lawmakers in Washington, D.C. during steak reception

Siouxland leaders press the flesh and lobby for projects back home with lawmakers and officials in Washington, D.C.  Dozens attended the 60th Annual Siouxland-Washington Conference Steak Reception Wednesday night on Capitol Hill.  This is the highlight of the two-day lobbying trip by local government, school, and business leaders.  Before Wednesday night's reception, they had a day full of meetings in the nation's capital.  They'll have more meetings Thursday morning before coming home later in the day.

Two candidates attend meet-and-greet to state case for Nebraska governor

Siouxland voters had a chance to meet two of the six Republican candidates running for governor of Nebraska.  Former State Auditor Mike Foley and business owner Beau McCoy attended a meet-and-greet hosted by the Dakota County Republican Party Wednesday night.  Foley says his top priority would be to lower Nebraska's tax burden.  McCoy says he wants to continue Governor Dave Heineman's efforts to lower taxes and grow the economy.

Iowa man receives 50-year pilot award

Aviation honors for a Siouxlander who has spent a lot of time in the air.  Dr. John Garred Sr. received the "50-year Wright Brothers Master Pilot" award from the FAA Wednesday night in South Sioux City, Nebraska.  The honor was presented during an annual safety aviation meeting.  Garred started flying in 1943.  He also received an award for being the longest-serving aviation medical examiner in the country.
