SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - The Sioux City Musketeers kept their season alive with a 4-3 overtime win over Waterloo on Friday in Game 3 of the USHL's Western Conference finals. Sioux City trails two games to one, with Game 4 coming up on Sunday.

After a scoreless first period, Sioux City took the lead when Adam Johnson scored an unassisted goal to give the home team a 1-0 lead. Waterloo's Dane Cooper tied the game less than two minutes later.

The back and forth scoring continues when Johnson scored his second goal of the game at the 6:58 mark of the second period. Waterloo answered less than a minute later when Liam Pecararo made it 2-2 after two periods.

Sioux City got the lead back on a goal from Avery Peterson midway through the third period. Waterloo sent the game to overtime with just four seconds left in regulation, pulling their goalie for an extra attacker. Brandon Montour's tally made it 3-3.

With just over three minutes left in overtime, Sioux City's Jake Montgomery made a great pass to Joel L'esperance in front of the net to send the 3,000 fans home happy with the victory.

"This team's battled through tons this year," said L'esperance. "We knew we were in trouble but we knew we could come back in overtime. We could deal with it and we did. We scored and it was nice."

"Joel was unbelievable for us with that goal," said head coach Jay Varady. "I thought we had other opportunities in overtime that we just missed. But I thought we rebounded very well and we came back and we worked and we competed."

Game 4 will be Sunday night at 7:05 at the Tyson Events Center. If Sioux City wins, Game 5 would be back in Waterloo on Tuesday.
