Camp High Hopes hosts inaugural "Rib Run"

More than 250 people ran, walked, or rolled along the Missouri River for the Camp High Hopes first ever 5K Rib Run.

The event was a fundraiser for the camp in Sioux City that provides safe fun for kids and adults with disabilities.

For the past four years, Camp High Hopes has held a barbecue, but organizers said they've been looking for ways to expand, and the Rib Run was the perfect fit.

"We wanted to try to have something that was more family friendly, and so we wanted to get people out there and be active. So, we thought a run/walk would be fun for that. So, kind of a way to play off of the barbecue ribs we're already selling," Camp High Hopes CEO Ali Langseth said.

Langseth expects the event to raise about $25,000 for Camp High Hopes and she plans to make the Rib Run an annual tradition.
