Newcastle graduates last class

NEWCASTLE, NE (KTIV) - The song signals a high school graduation. But for the five graduating seniors in Newcastle's class of 2014, this graduation is anything but ordinary.

“This is not only an ending chapter for us, the class of 2014, but also for all the current Raiders in this building," said Newcastle valedictorian Jeremy Attema.

With the school's upcoming merger with Hartington, this is the last class that will graduate from Newcastle.

“You always think of graduation as fun and you always look forward to it, but knowing that it's the last one ever gives mixed emotions,” said Newcastle graduate Marti Carlson.

And this particular graduation is bittersweet.

I'll miss it,” said Newcastle graduate Pete Rodriguez. “The school will be gone, so no more Raider power anymore."

No more Raider power. Just the power of their friendship with one another.

“The final five,” said Newcastle salutatorian Kylie White. “We've had a lot of fun and a lot of memorable things with each other."

All five of Newcastle's graduates will attend Northeast Community College in either South Sioux City or Norfolk in the fall. Their choice of higher education is just one indication of how close the class has become.
