Dakota City kicks off Fire Department fundraising

DAKOTA CITY, Nebraska (KTIV) - Dakota City hosted hundreds this morning to fundraise for a project they say is long overdue.

The Dakota City - Covington Fire Department held a breakfast open house event to showcase the mock-up for the community's new fire department.

All proceeds from the fundraising kick-off breakfast are going toward funding the 2.1 million dollar project.

Fire Chief Clint Rasmussen says the building is old and in bad need of upgrading, because a lot of their equipment has to be housed outside.

But he says a brand new fire department will be good for the whole community, not just the volunteer fire department.

"The Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, State Patrol, Sheriff's Department, there's a lot of organizations that use this building. So it's definitely for the community, too," Chief Rasmussen said.

He says they'll be fundraising like crazy the next few months, so the project can hopefully be finished in the next couple of years.
