Park projected for Sioux City's downtown receives major grant

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - A Sioux City project receives a grant for 140 thousand dollars, finally allowing the Shepherd's Garden board to move forward.

Vision Iowa approved a grant to the park, planned for the space where the YWCA used to be in downtown Sioux City.

The grant will only be given to Shepherd's Garden if the board can fundraise a last effort 30 thousand dollars, but Bill Stoneburg, a Shepherd's Garden board member, says he's confident it won't be a problem.

The board is working with Klinger Construction to plant flowers and trees at the site, and it will be finished with benches, water features, and religious symbols and bible verses.

The project is estimated to total 810 thousand dollars, and planting should take place this fall.

Stoneburg says they're hoping it can be a place for everyone to gather in downtown Sioux City, regardless of religious affiliation.
