X's manager Montgomery looking to veteran Todd Jennings for leadership

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Even though there are only five players returning from last year's 38-win team with the Explorers, there is another familiar face on the field.
New Manager Steve Montgomery is joined in Sioux City by catcher Todd Jennings, who spent the last two seasons with Fargo-Moorhead.
Montgomery is hoping Jennings can make an immediate impact with the franchise.
In each of the last two seasons, Jennings helped the Red-Hawks to more than 62-wins and the pitching staff to an earned run average below four (3.72 in 2013 and 3.85 in 2012)
In retrospect, Sioux City's ERA hovered around five (4.57 in 2013 and 4.93 in 2012). Montgomery will look to Jennings' leadership on the field and in the clubhouse as the X's try to log their first winning season since 2011.
"He puts down the right fingers. Defensively, you're not going to find a better catcher in the league and what you get off of his bat, it's kind of a bonus," Montgomery said. "I've talked to him about controlling the pitching staff and about being a leader on this team and stepping up."
The X's begin the season May 15th against Sioux Falls. Their home opener is May 17th, also against the Canaries.
