Major upgrade planned for Sioux City soccer complex

Sioux City's soccer complex, in Riverside Park, is undergoing a major renovation.

The $800,000 project to reconfigure the fields should allow the city to attract some outside tournaments.

The Youth Soccer Association says membership has tripled in recent years, to more than 1,500 players.

"For us to continue to grow our program and to provide the opportunities for more kids, we just need some more space. We don't get as many games in town as we can in our current facility. We are not able to attract 50 or 60 teams on a weekend to come in and play,” said Jason Glover, Siouxland Soccer Foundation President.

The project will be done in phases over the next four years, with the first being the fields themselves.

A new concession stand and lights are also planned.

The Siouxland Soccer Foundation is contributing $50,000 in private donations to the city project.
