South Sioux City readies funding for multimillion dollar project

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) - The South Sioux City Council met Monday to vote to fund a multimillion dollar project for the city.

City Administrator Lance Hedquist says the vote was to ensure up to 2-point-7 million dollars in funding that could be matched by a federal grant.

That money would be used to run sewage lines to the multimillion dollar Big Ox Energy construction project in South Sioux City.

The Big Ox Energy facility will break down waste to produce natural gas with can later be sold. It will also treat the city's waste water.

Hedquist says both projects will be big gains for South Sioux City.

He adds there are still things the city needs to do to secure the federal grant, but they are well on their way.

Big Ox Energy anticipates their facility will create up to 30 permanent local jobs.

They plan for operations to begin late in 2015.
