Norfolk gears up for blood drive battle

NORFOLK, NE. (KTIV/US92) - The first responders in one Siouxland community are using the friendly rivalry between police crews and the firefighters to help the American Red Cross save lives.

This Friday, Norfolk police and fire departments will hold the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive.

Police Captain Michael Bauer said that the two departments are seeing who can recruit the most donor.

"The American Red Cross needs 15,000 units of blood donated to meet the demand of injured people out there who are suffering medical necessity for the blood," said Capt. Bauer, Norfolk Police.

For those keeping score, the Norfolk Fire Division won last years Battle of the Badges.

The donations will take place on Friday from noon to 6 p.m. at the Norfolk Fire Station.

Donors are asked to schedule appointments and cast their vote for who should win.
