Dubuque, IA officials visit Sioux City to make growth suggestions

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - As Sioux City begins to transition into having the casino downtown, and on land, the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce says they're working to learn as much as they can about making a successful transition.

City officials from Dubuque, Iowa came to speak to community leaders about a very similar transition they made, not too long ago.

Representatives from their economic development team spoke about ways to attract a younger workforce and revitalize the heart of the city.

They said Dubuque struggled with some of the same problems Sioux City faces, and those in attendance said they were happy for advice.

"While we both face challenges with finding enough labor for our employers, it's a challenge that they've been dealing with for a number of years, and it's something relatively new to our Siouxland community. So we're trying to learn as much as we can," Chris McGowan, President of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce said.

The presenters also gave advice for a community job website, to promote younger talented workers to relocate to the Siouxland region.
