Town hall meeting over two issues on the ballot in northeast Nebraska community

Battle Creek, Neb (KTIV/US92) - Nebraska's primary election is less than a week away, but before people in one community head to the polls they gathered for a final town hall meeting on Wednesday night.

They took a closer look as some issues on the ballot causing a some concern.

Representatives from the city of Battle Creek answered questions regarding the two ballot issues.

One, includes a $5-million-dollar bond issue for the purpose of expanding and remodeling the city owned Community Pride Care Center.

The other deals with increasing the town's local option sales tax one and one half percent.

The money will be used for community improvement and reducing the town's debt.

City officials say when it comes to this election, nothing is more important than these two ballot issues for the citizens of Battle Creek.

Mike Fleer, City Administrator, Battle Creek said,"Yes we have commissioners that are running, we have other minor primary election issues that will be on the ballot. This one affects the people of the community."

City officials say if both issues pass property taxes should stay the same and could even be reduced in the future.
