Epic Iowa Road Trip stops at the Iowa Great Lakes

OKOBOJI, Iowa (KTIV/KUUO) - Testing out the updated roller coaster wasn't the only thing going on up in the Iowa Great Lakes, Thursday.

They also got a visit from the epic Iowa Road trip.

A special campaign to increase public awareness into the important role tourism plays in Iowa's economy continues to make its way around the state.

The Epic Iowa Road Trip made several stops in the region, including the Iowa Great Lakes.Shawna Lode, Tourism Office Manager for the Iowa Economic Development Authority says tourism in Iowa is a $7 billion dollar a year industry.

She says the goal of the Epic Iowa Road Trip is to make more Iowans aware of what's in their own back yard.

"We hope that we'll tell them about some tourist destinations that they may not have known existed in Iowa and even some of those that they may have heard of.  For instance we visited the Pella Tulip Time and the Iowa Speedway", said Shawna Lode, Tourism Office Manage, Iowa Economic Development Authority.

Lode says they're also using the campaign as a way to thank local tourism officials for their work in promoting the industry.

The delegation got a firsthand look at the Arnolds Park Amusement Park and the newly renovated Legend Rollercoaster and toured the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum.
