NORFOLK, NE. (KTIV/US92) -
A Siouxland city has come up with a sweet idea to try and grow businesses in their community.
Norfolk, Nebraska city leaders are establishing a program that they say looks to get area businesses more connected and engaged in the city. The program is called Business Retention and Expansion, or BR!E.
City economic development officials say once a week, they'll tour a local business. They want to find out the needs of the business and what obstacles they face in expanding their business. They also want to examine what the city can do to help.
The title BR!E isn't just an acronym, but a theme that city officials have embraced. Officials say with each visit, they bring along cupcakes made with brie cheese as a way to break the ice and share a bit of sweetness with the business owners in the area.
Members of the BR!E Team plan on making their weekly visits at least through the end of this year.
