Northeast NE college talks about ways it could help with area school consolidations

NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV/US92)  Five northeast Nebraska schools looking at sharing resources to fight falling enrollment may soon be getting help from Northeast Community College.

NECC leaders talked about the college's potential involvement in the possible consolidation of the Creighton, Plainview, Osmond, Wausa and Bloomfield school districts. College officials say it's still to early to come up with a plan.

But, there are a number of ways Northeast could be of help in the future.

"We want business and industry to circle around this. We want our Center for Enterprise to eventually, possibly, be a part of whatever's going to happen. We're looking at training. We're looking at types of educational value that we can add to their processes," said Dr. Michael Chipps, President, Northeast Community College.

College officials have attended some of the recent public hearings regarding the schools' potential merger.

Another round of meetings is scheduled to take place in June.
