Blue Zones kicks off "walking moai"program

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - Eating healthy is just one part of the Blue Zones lifestyle that Sioux City is trying to embrace.

Another important aspect is getting active.

Saturday, the Blue Zones Project kicked off their "walking moai" program.

They are small groups of 8 to 10 people that walk together on a weekly basis.

People signed up and took their first walk around the skywalk.

"Hopefully it will spur new social relationships and get people out walking, whether its in the skywalk or its outdoors, to get more exercise this summer," Blue Zones Community Program Manager Sue Brown said.

The program lasts for 10 weeks and those who walk the most will receive a prize.

KTIV's Sheila Brummer emceed the event.

If you missed the kickoff, you can contact the Blue Zones office at (712)-224-6042 to sign up for the program.
