SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
The Food Bank of Siouxland and the United States Postal Service teamed up Saturday to stamp out hunger.

Notices were dropped off in the mail mid-week for people to donate food to the food bank.

Saturday postal workers picked up food that people left with their mail, and brought it to the food bank, where about 50 volunteers helped to get it sorted and weighed.

It's an event that provides a little extra for the food bank - and the people who need it.

"The demand is ever-growing, and that means our work is really cut out for us to put enough food on the floor of the Food Bank to meet that demand, and to make sure that no one goes hungry," said excutiveexecutiver Linda Scheid. "Days like today, they make a tremendous difference for us."

The Food Bank hopes to meet or exceed last year's total of 12,000 pounds of food for the event.

The Food Bank of Siouxland serves over 100 agencies and 11 counties in Iowa and Nebraska.
