UPDATE: Driver takes his own life after tri-state chase

Authorities from all three Siouxland states were led on a high speed chase Saturday night, that the Nebraska State Patrol says ended with the driver dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police say the chase entered Sioux City after an incident in North Sioux City, South Dakota.

North Sioux City Police Chief Jody Frye confirms that a woman was shot just off Interstate 29, near mile marker four.

Frye said she suffered non-life-threatening injuries.  Her name has not been released.

Authorities followed the suspect, a man driving a white pick-up truck with South Dakota plate,  into Sioux City and eventually into Nebraska.

The chase went onto Highway 75, where it ended just North of Macy, when the driver's car began to smoke and lose its wheels.

The driver refused to get out of the vehicle, and killed himself.

The Macy Police Department called in the FBI.  Because the incident happened near tribal lands, a spokesperson for the FBI said Saturday night that they were trying to determine whether the incident involved any members of the Omaha tribe.

After it was determined that no one from the Omaha  tribe was involved, the case was turned over to the Nebraska State Patrol, and it is still being investigated.
