LITTLE ROCK, Iowa (KTIV) -
Tyler Starr waited all afternoon Saturday for his phone to ring during the final rounds of the NFL Draft.
When it finally did, the Atlanta Falcons were on the other end of the line welcoming the South Dakota linebacker as the newest member of their franchise.
Their final selection, Atlanta drafted Starr with the 255th overall pick in the 7th round.
After injuries and academic issues during his college career Starr says the road to the NFL has been anything but easy, but that he's excited for the opportunity to play at the next level.
Starr holds the South Dakota record for sacks with 27 and forced fumbles with 13.
"It was very brief and simple like 'Hey we're going to bring you on board,'" he said said. "There's not much to it. 'Hey we're going to draft you.' I don't remember much of it because it was so surreal because I just like 'holy smokes.'"
Starr traveled to Atlanta on Sunday to begin rookie mini camp.
He'll be joined by nine other draft picks, which includes three other linebackers.
