Damage reported in Sioux County, IA after tornado touches down near Hospers

Stormy weather hits the midwest, including parts of Siouxland. The Sioux County Sheriff's Office said a tornado did severe damage to a dairy farm five miles northwest of Hospers. Authorities said 500 cattle were on the loose after the storm. The twister touched down in the Newkirk and Hospers area around 8:40 Sunday night. A link to a video of the tornado was posted to the KTIV Facebook page. There was also a report of minor damage to a farm house, but there have been no reports of injuries.

Storms hit much harder in southeast Nebraska. Homes and businesses were damaged in Sutton, Garland, Cordova, and Daykin. In Sutton, the roof was torn off City Hall. The storms also left nearly 17,000 utility customers without electricity Sunday evening.

Community to host fundraiser for Siouxland girl with rare genetic disorder

People in Hubbard, Nebraska are stepping up to help a 3-year-old girl who's battling a genetic disorder so rare that most doctors she visits have never heard of it. Ella Watkins was born with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome. A speech therapist and occupational therapist come to her family's home to work with Ella. Next Sunday, the town of Hubbard is putting on a 5K run fundraiser with a spaghetti supper and a raffle. So far, 80 of the town's 235 residents have signed up to take part.

Siouxland teens help Haitians stitch by stitch

Lauren Lennon and Sarah Sadler from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa started selling scarves and t-shirts to friends and family members in Siouxland to raise money to go on a mission trip to Haiti, but their crafting hobby turned into a business. The two teens started their business, called Revived, after visiting Haiti where they saw there was a need for clothing. Now, they send their profits and clothing to the third world country. With their next trip to Haiti just a few weeks away, they are ramping up production to help clothe as many people as possible.
