Man charged with murder appears in Yankton County Court

YANKTON, South Dakota (KTIV) - A man charged with murdering his uncle with a blacksmith hammer appeared in Yankton County court Monday morning.

28-year-old Joshua Hudson is charged with killing 46-year-old Todd Hudson on March 7th.

Todd Hudson's body was found in a mobile home in Yankton, and afterward, Joshua Hudson lead authorities on a high speed pursuit through South Dakota and Iowa.

Hudson hasn't even entered a plea in his case yet, because he wants to represent himself in court.

Before he can refuse state-appointed counsel, he needs to be assessed and proven competent to do so.

Today, his current attorney told the judge that Hudson's psychiatric evaluation is coming up, this Friday.

"I have collected the previous psychiatric records and sent those along with other information requested, including arrest reports and other information to Dr. Spanggaard so she's in a position to conduct that evaluation," Dan Fox, Joshua Hudson's current lawyer said.

Hudson will be back in court on June 9th for the judge to assess the results of his evaluation.
