UPDATE: Sioux City Police identify victim in fatal accident on Highway 20

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Sioux City Police have released the name of the driver of a car that crashed early Wednesday morning.

Police say a car driven by Michelle Hilburn of Sioux City was driving in the eastbound lanes of Highway 20 near Sunnybrook Drive.

Hilburn's vehicle went down into the median into oncoming traffic.

It hit head-on by a pickup truck driven by Michael Holbrook of South Sioux City, Nebraska.

The collision sent the truck rolling onto its roof.

Hilburn was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Holbrook went to the hospital and was later released.

Police are still investigating the cause.

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Authorities investigate a crash during the Wednesday morning commute in Sioux City that claimed the life of one driver and sent another to the hospital.

It happened in the eastbound lanes of Highway 20 between the Sunnybrook Drive and Morningside Avenue interchanges shortly after 7:30.Police said a westbound car went down into the median and across into oncoming traffic.

It struck a pickup truck head-on.

The collision sent the truck rolling onto its roof.

The woman driving the car was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the man driving the pickup truck went to Mercy Trauma Care and was treated and released. 

They said the pickup truck was owned by Gill Hauling of Jackson, Nebraska.


The names of those involved have not yet been released, pending family notification.


Authorities are investigating what led to the crash.


They said alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this incident, nor is speed. 

Police said if there are further witnesses other than who the police have already talked to, call Officer Echter or Sgt. Sassman at 712-898-2492.

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Police have confirmed at least one person has died in a two car accident on Highway 20 Wednesday morning.

The accident happened at about 7:40 am.  Shortly after, Sioux City Fire and Rescue tweeted they were heading to mile marker two on Highway 20 eastbound for a head on collision. 

One car and one pickup truck was involved in the crash.  Police said a car going westbound on Highway 20 crossed the median and hit a pickup truck going eastbound. The accident is in between the Sunnybrook Drive and Morningside Avenue exits.     

Paramedics took one person from the pickup truck to the hospital with injuries. Officers are still investigating the accident.

Iowa Department of Transportation said US Highway 20 eastbound and westbound has reopened to traffic.
