New blaze erupts near Carlsbad, California, forcing more residents from their homes

(NBC News)  Fire crews continue to wrestle with several wildfires burning across southern California.

The latest blaze erupted near Carlsbad Wednesday morning.

Several homes have been destroyed, and evacuation orders have been issued several hundred residents.

Firefighters from Santa Barbara to San Diego are on edge and hoping for a change in the weather.

Abnormally warm weather, dry conditions and heavy winds are helping fuel the fires.

"It does put us on edge and that's why we have a robust force of engine companies and assets on the line today so the weather is a very big concern for us," says Cal Fire Chief Ray Cheney.

Strong Santa Ana winds and triple digit heat are in the forecast through the end of the week.

Most of the fires that flared up Tuesday were contained or under control by Wednesday, allowing thousands to return home after being forced to evacuate.
