SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
In early May two Siouxlanders showed they're two of the state's best at the USBC Iowa State Youth Bowling Tournament in Davenport, Iowa.
Among the 300 girl participants, Justicey Tieck bowled the highest game with a 287.
She says her previous personal best was around 170. The 16-year-old had a perfect game heading into her second throw of the 10th frame, but ended up with a spare. Tieck tried to stay as calm as she could in the hopes of bowling a 300.
"I knew that if I got over confident that I wasn't going to be able to do it," Tieck said. "So, I stayed and kept to myself for a while at least until the end of the game because I wanted to try."
5-year-old Riley Hauswirth finished 2nd out of 61 bowlers in the Boys Division 6 with a total score of 730.
The youngster picked up the game in September and went from averaging two pins per game with bumpers on the lane, to an average score in the 60's without any help.
"How much practicing do you do?
"Like tons," Riley said.
He also says he never gets tired of bowling.
"We were kind of nervous because he's never done it without bumpers," Riley's mom, Tabitha Taylor added. "Now he beats me at bowling, so I don't even bowl against him anymore. He just beats me."
